Forming part of the “Beethoven Project” is a documentary which portrays the origin, evolution and rehearsals of the Beethoven cycle. This outstanding ensemble and its artistic director Paavo Järvi are squaring up to the challenge that is Beethoven, and performing all nine symphonies in four days at the Beethoven Festival in Bonn.
As musicians they are world class, as shareholders in the company that is their orchestra they bear the full risks. Their vision does not end with the final applause: the musicians are also fulfilling a social respon- sibility and passing on their passion for music to students at a Bremen school.
The film takes a look at the orchestra itself, which clearly distinguishes itself from other ensembles through its goals, its special rela- tionship to Beethoven and its social commit-ment to the underprivileged Bremen neigh- borhood that the musicians have chosen as their basis.
The „Beethoven Project“ comprises the the
Beethoven Symphony Cycle of Ludwig van Beethoven which were also recorded at the Beethovenfest Bonn in 2009 and are now available on DVD.
